Release Notes
What’s shipped in FishCognito, what’s next — and a place to ask for what isn’t on the list yet.
Shipped
Aug 22 — Release notes grouped by day
- Release notes grouped by day
The Shipped list now breaks into day groups with a one-line recap of each, instead of one long undifferentiated list.
Aug 20 — Pull to refresh and New app icon
- Pull to refresh
Pull down on Conditions to check for fresh data instead of waiting on it to catch up on its own.
- New app icon
The home-screen icon got a redesign — same fish, new artwork.
Aug 19 — Fly shops on the map, Shop reports on Conditions, and 3 more
- Fly shops on the map
Nearby fly shops show up as their own layer, with address, phone, and website a tap away.
- Shop reports on Conditions
The latest river report from local fly shops sits right on Conditions, alongside the gauge.
- Your best flows
Once you've logged enough fish on a river, see the flow range you catch them in.
- When your fish come
The hours of the day your catches actually land on a river, once you've logged enough of them.
- Your temperature range
The water temps you've caught fish in on a river, next to what it's reading right now.
Aug 18 — River pages, Special-regulation warnings, and 4 more
- River pages
Every tracked river gets its own page — conditions, map, stocking, and your log for it in one place, with a full river directory to browse.
- Special-regulation warnings
A heads-up on rivers where DEC's rules differ from the statewide default, on the stretch it actually applies to.
- Named pools on the map
The classic named pools on the major rivers, as their own layer you can switch on when you want them.
- Save your own spots
Drop and name your own pins along the river — parking, a run that fishes well — as a layer only you see.
- Multi-river days and exact spots
Log more than one river in a day, and pin where a fish actually came from instead of the whole river.
- Stocking totals
What DEC stocked in each river this season, by species, on the river's page.
Aug 17 — Catch details, Conditions snapshots on your log, and 6 more
- Catch details
Optional species, length, and fly pattern on any logged fish — the one-tap log stays one tap.
- Conditions snapshots on your log
Each logged day records the flow and water temp you actually fished in, straight from the USGS gauge.
- Favorite rivers
Star the rivers you fish most and they rise to the top of Today's Picks.
- Offline map downloads
Download the Catskills maps ahead of a trip so everything works with zero signal streamside.
- Rain-aware fishability
Incoming rain in the forecast tells you to fish early, before the gauge ever sees the rise.
- Full Neversink coverage
Extend the app's data window south to cover all 29 DEC-managed miles of the Neversink.
- Forecast on Conditions
The NWS forecast sits right on each river's card, so you can see the weather that's about to move the gauge.
- Feature requests
Ask for what's missing right from the Release Notes tab — approved requests show up here for everyone.
Earlier — Quieter DEC regulations and Truer river selection highlight
- Quieter DEC regulations
Dropped the boilerplate catch-and-release text and map-popup line that repeated on nearly every river — special rules still get called out.
- Truer river selection highlight
The dark selection outline on the map now matches the width of the actual river it's highlighting, so small creeks still show their blue when you tap them zoomed out.
Planned
- What's hatching
The Catskill hatches due on a river now, matched to the water temp — and which of them you've already caught fish on.
- Tailwater releases
On the Delaware branches and the Neversink, the release coming out of the dam and when it reaches the water you're fishing.
- Good-conditions alerts
A push notification when a favorite river comes into shape — flows drop into range, temps cool off.
Later
- Stocking alerts
A heads-up while a river you fish is actively being stocked, not just a season total after the fact.
- Photos on catches
Attach a photo to a logged fish.
- Share spots with a buddy
Send a set of your pins to someone for a trip, on a link that expires when the trip does.
- More regions
Beyond the Catskills — same app, other trout water.
Requested by anglers
- Weather forecast should not factor into river rating
Future weather does not affect current river conditions
- Make the release notes easier to read.
Maybe a small summary of features and fixes per day
- Sources too long
Keep the core substance but make it actually readable instead of a novel
- Clicking the River icons selects the river issue
Clicking the River icons selects the river but only shows the selector color not the blue when zoomed out for smaller water bodies.
- Every river has dec regulations apply which is repetitive
- Saved app should be cached so I can use it in poor connectivity
- Cattail Brook is missing
- Clarity Conditions
Only see clarity conditions on the neversink. Are they displaying correctly on the river pages?
